I love spending time in the Rocky Mountains. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking, and the amazing photo opportunities due to the incredible surrounding landscapes are endless. Recently, I had the opportunity to do a golden hour adventure session at Rocky Mountain National Park with Mikayla and her husband! Mikayla is also a photographer, so it was fun getting asked to do photos for another photographer! Lighting is very important to consider when planning your session locations but I am here to give you some guidance!
I’m sure through the planning of your adventure session you’ve come across the words “golden hour” plastered everywhere! If you don’t know what it is, Golden Hour is that time just before sunset or right after sunrise when the sun is low in the sky and the light is softer and more diffused. This is often considered the best time for photography because the lighting is so beautiful! If you’re planning an outdoor session, I highly recommend considering a golden hour session and if you pair it with an incredible location then you’ve got the start to a great photography experience.
Treat the day of your photoshoot as a fun date between you two! I know it’s not a typical date, or one that you are used to, because you probably don’t usually have a camera following you two around! But, I promise you it will be worth it when you get to see the end result of your beautiful photos in an amazing location like Rocky Mountain National Park.
Here are a few ways to make your photoshoot feel like a fun date:
-Pick a location that has meaning to you! That way you and your partner can explore together and run around the area soaking up the reminiscent feelings the place brings with it!
-Wear something that makes you feel comfortable and confident! This will show in your photos! You want it to be something that makes you feel like yourself! Plus, bonus points if it is something where you can move around a lot in and isn’t restricting!
-Communication is key during your session! If you’re ever feeling uncomfortable or like you’re not sure how to pose, just let me know and we’ll figure it out together. Although, I shoot very movement oriented and take lots of candid photos capturing your emotions and reactions the way they naturally happen so most people feel very relaxed once we start shooting and don’t feel the pressure of having to know how to pose. I take you as your are– because I bet you are awesome!
-Have fun with each other and enjoy the experience! These moments are fleeting so soak them all up! It’s not everyday that you have a photographer there to take your images while you are on a fun adventure date with your partner! So just take a breath and be in the moment and your love story with shine through the images!
