What Are Fire Files Sessions Really About?

Let’s dive into this moody and intimate couples photo session and my intentions behind the Fire Files. When most people hear the phrase “intimate couples session,” their minds often jump straight to what the photos might look like.

But Fire Files sessions were never created to be about creating a certain type of image.

They’re about creating a space.

A space where you can slow down, connect with your partner, explore your relationship, and document whatever intimacy looks like for the two of you.

Because intimacy isn’t one thing.

For some couples, intimacy looks playful and passionate. For others, it looks adventurous and spontaneous. Sometimes it looks sensual. Sometimes it looks emotional. And sometimes it looks like sitting quietly together in a room, completely at peace in each other’s presence.

One of my recent Fire Files couples embodied that beautifully.

We photographed their session in their home with moody lighting, dramatic shadows, and a touch of atmosphere from a fog machine. While the images feel cinematic and artistic, what stood out most wasn’t the lighting—it was the quiet connection between them.

There wasn’t a need to rush, a need to perform, or a need to overstep in moments that were naturally unfolding.

Instead, we spent the session slowing down and allowing space for the intimacy that naturally exists between them. The way they looked at each other. The comfortable silence. The gentle touch of a hand. The feeling of being fully present with one another.

Their session wasn’t about creating passion.

It was about documenting peace.

And that’s exactly what Fire Files is meant to be.

Every Fire Files Session Begins With Intention

One of the most important parts of the Fire Files experience actually happens before we ever pick up a camera.

Every couple and every individual comes into these sessions with different comfort levels, experiences, desires, and expectations. Because of that, I always schedule a conversation beforehand so we can intentionally prepare for the experience together.

During that conversation, we’ll talk about:

  • What you’re hoping to get out of the session
  • What intimacy means to you
  • Any boundaries you’d like to establish
  • Expectations for the experience
  • Privacy concerns
  • Comfort levels with touch, clothing, vulnerability, and connection
  • How we can create a space that feels safe and supportive for everyone involved

These conversations aren’t just logistics.

They’re an opportunity to build trust.

Because trust is what allows people to relax enough to be fully present.

There Is No “Right Way” To Do A Fire Files Session

One of the biggest misconceptions about intimate photography is that it has to look a certain way.

It doesn’t.

Your Fire Files session can be romantic, playful, emotional, sensual, adventurous, cozy, empowering, healing, or deeply reflective.

It can happen in your home, in a cabin in the mountains, under the stars, or wherever feels meaningful to you.

It can focus on your relationship with your partner, your relationship with yourself, or simply celebrating a season of life you’re moving through.

The intention is always more important than the location.

The intention is always more important than the photos.

Because when we start with intention, the photographs become a reflection of something real.

Creating A Safe Space For Vulnerability

The heart of Fire Files has never been about pushing people outside of their comfort zones.

It’s about creating an environment where vulnerability feels safe enough to exist naturally.

Whether that vulnerability looks like holding your partner close, sharing a quiet moment together, embracing your body, or simply allowing yourself to be seen, my role is to guide the experience with care and respect.

The goal isn’t to manufacture intimacy.

The goal is to create space for it.

And when that happens, the photographs become more than beautiful images.

They become reminders of connection, trust, and the ways we choose to show up for ourselves and the people we love.

That’s what Fire Files is really about.
